Our mission
Mission
The NGO Aviation Sans Frontières is an air operator that supports humanitarian and development actors in the areas of passenger and freight transport, support for sick children or refugees and acquisition of information on the environment.
Its aeronautical expertise, its humanitarian experience and its developmental approach form a solidarity chain between the resources of generosity and people in great difficulty.
Vision
Aviation sans Frontières Belgium (Aviation Without Borders Belgium) wishes to contribute to equal access for all to healthcare, education, food security, health infrastructure and to include everyone in the fight against poverty without any distinction for race, gender, language, religion, political orientation or any other opinion, nationality, social origin, or any other situation.
Status
Aviation Sans Frontières Belgium is a non-profit organisation (NPO) established under Belgian law in 1983 (registered under number 8989/83 in Belgium's official gazette). It is accredited by the Belgian Federal Public Service for Finance, and is recognised as a non-governmental organisation (NGO) by the European Commission and the agencies of the United Nations.
Funding
Aviation Sans Frontières Belgium is essentially funded by the Belgian public through campaigns to raise awareness and appeals for donations. Grants are also received from institutional funders, including the European Commission Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Office (ECHO). Furthermore, there are also various partnerships and one-off contributions. Its average annual operating budget is one million euros.
Neutrality and independence
Aviation Sans Frontières Belgium is strictly neutral and independent with regard to the origin of the crises or troubles of the country in which it assists groups in need. However, this neutrality does not mean ignoring serious breaches of the basic rights of groups in these countries. In such cases, ASF-Belgium must decide whether its duty of confidentiality will damage the interest of the groups they are directly assisting.
Humanitarian aid and sustainable development
For Aviation Sans Frontières Belgium, humanitarian aid means an appropriate response to needs clearly identified by sector professionals in collaboration with the groups affected. This includes offering the best cost-effectiveness ratio possible, supplying specific aid to as many as possible depending on the context, and optimising local resources. Our sustainable development approach leads us to manage local resources (natural, physical and human resources) to get the best for the long term well-being of the groups affected. Our management approach in turn leads to prevention of humanitarian crises such as those caused by climate change.
